HTTPS/HTTP

The acronyms HTTP and HTTPS stand for respectively: Hypertext Transfer Protocol and Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. Both refer to protocols for the transmission of hypertext documents between a server and a user. It is these solutions that underpin the functioning of the World Wide Web as we know it today.

The additional word contained in HTTPS secure suggests that the transmission of documents is secured by a protocol such as SSL. This type of security effectively minimises the risk of data being stolen, e.g. sent in forms. Nowadays, the installation of an SSL certificate is the absolute basis for the security of users of online shops or portals which shop any data.
